Has a bushy habit, rather upright. It produces flowers of a bright cherry red in May-June, then sporadically again until autumn, if the soil does not dry out too much. Its branches are adorned with persistent, tough green foliage, which takes on a beautiful orange colour on the young shoots. Not very hardy (up to -7°C (19.4 °F)), it thrives in full sun in light, slightly acidic soils that are not too chalky, even quite dry.
